Journal Entry # 93

Wednesday, June 29 - Day 97 - Mile 1108.9 - Campsite just before the Alec Kennedy Shelter

Another picture postcard day here in Pennsylvania. We had a great stay at the Ironmaster Mansion. After a short relax on the front porch watching deer and drinking  a cup of coffee we headed out for today's hike.
The hike was one of our best so far from the standpoint of terrain and weather.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting Miss Janet who was hiking south in the trail.  She used to run a hostel in Erwin that Buffalo Bobby stayed at on a previous hike. Guardian had just read an article on her and enjoyed running into her today. Miss Janet section hikes the trail, with her dog, helping hikers, passing out fruit and snacks and offering shuttles. We had a wonderful conversion with her and she gave me some tips on avoiding falls. She also let us know we were heading for a tough uphill rock scramble in a couple of miles. She was right! She also suggested this campsite in lieu of the shelter just a bit further up the trail.  I had heard of her from several hikers who she had helped all along the trail.

Were now in our tents relaxing before dinner after this terrific day.  In the morning we'll hike into Boiling Springs and meet Anne & Paul and spend a day getting cleaned and pressed.

This has been a great week.
Lots of love,
Trolley Stop
